Farewell! Au Revoir! Adieu! Adios!
Last week we officially said Goodbye to a trusted friend over the past 15.5 months, Nanea's Avent Bottles. We stopped cold-turkey.
Although she has only been drinking from a bottle at night for quite some time now, it was hard (for us, the parents) to give it up since she has always fallen asleep so nicely after polishing off those 8-9 oz. of warm, organic whole milk. How on earth would she go to bed now??!?!
It has been a little challenging, but as I've always practiced, routine is key. She still has a bath, we read "Goodnight Moon" - twice, and now instead of a bottle, she has her sippy cup (which actually, she doesn't drink from) and gets rocked and sung to until she's sleepy and we put her down to fall asleep on her own. The first night took over an hour, and I took the coward's way out and made Noa do it. The past couple of nights it's only taken the normal 20-30 min and with minimal/no crying. She's starting to get it, and I keep telling her she's a big girl now and has to go to sleep when it's time, and on her own.
Her pediatrician was THRILLED when I told him yesterday that she was off the bottle. I guess he didn't think we had it in us. But, hey, I'm all about the rules and doing things when I'm supposed to. He said 15 months, so I knew it was 15 months.
So, they are all packed away so I will not be tempted to dig one out for tough nights. I wanted to keep one out for "emergencies," but my wise husband said "Why?" so I reluctantly packed it away.
We (me) will miss you Avent!
