Baby Stuff

There is just SO MUCH STUFF babies need!!

I'm not a big fan of shopping. I like to get in and out, know exactly what I'm getting, for who, and approximately what it's going to cost. Browsing is not my thing. So, this venture into actually buying babystuff gave me a panic attack. Toys R Us (the only "big" baby chain we have here in Hawaii) gives me the heebie-jeebies, and I try very hard not to set foot in the place. Crowds, parking, messy; not my thing! I have to admit, I haven't been the best at keeping up with my reading on all things baby. With 20 books, you'd be overwhelmed too. In spite of this, I felt like I had a pretty good idea of what we needed. Little did I know that when you go to choose anything, you have 25 different choices of brands to choose from, and when reading the reviews, there are equal amounts of "great!" and "terrible!" Ok, ok, so I know you're probably wondering what I am talking about. Due to my dread of actually dragging my butt to Toys R Us and checking things out myself, I've attempted to choose everything online. So, I am relying on the customer reviews instead of seeing things for myself. I have a good excuse for this though, and that is that Hawaii is extremely limited on anything you can buy, compared to the mainland. Being from there, I know what I'm missing!

So, luckily for me, my dear friend Elisa, who is having her first baby in December, recommended the book, "Baby Bargains." Sort-of a less technical Consumer Reports on all babystuff. It's great, and definitely stopped my weekend of panicking, much to the relief of my husband. I definitely feel like I have a better handle on it now.

You don't like shopping?! I seem to remember a certain someone who, when asked where her favorite place on the island was, answered, "Ala Moana." (for those non-islanders, that's a shopping mall). Now that I think of it, that certain someone's husband answered--for her-- "Neiman Marcus." Hmmm...methinks the lady doth protest too much... heehee.
