Some things about Nanea

I've realized that although I've been pretty good about posting pictures, I don't actually write a lot about my Nanea. So, here goes.

She is really sweet, mellow and happy. Nothing beats picking her up and her snuggling down into your shoulder, and as you are snuggling and giving her kisses, she will pick her head up and lay a big fat wet one on your cheek, or chin, or nose. If she is not just waking up from the night or a nap, she will inevitably bite me, but she only bites me, so anyone else wouldn't have to worry about that. She also only kisses Noa and Aunty Norma thus far, so you won't have to worry about all that wetness on you!

She has the best smile! It is HUGE and so full of joy. She loves her daddy (I think she sees herself when he smiles because they really have identical faces when they smile). Her entire face lights up and she gets slanty-asian eyes. She loves everyone at Aunty Norma's house and starts smiling when she hears their voices as we are walking up to the door. Especially Grandma and Ikaika (Aunty Norma's mom and eldest son, respectively).

She is pulling herself up to a standing position now. On EVERYTHING! Chairs, couch, Nalu. She really loves Nalu, and he is so good with her. He will let her do anything to him and just lies there patiently. When he's done with her, he just gets up and attempts to hide. She is a methodical, calculated crawler. She isn't very fast yet, but really thinks about where she's going and what she's going for.

She always falls asleep in the car, and the jogging stroller. And yes, I have resorted to these 2 things upon occasion for naps.

Nanea is still sleeping through the night most of the time. There are definitely times when she doesn't, but it normally will only last 3-4 days and she's back on schedule. She's been going to sleep between 6-6:30pm and waking up about 5:30-5:45am.

We just put her in a new tub, called the Snug Tub, which makes the regular bath tub, baby/kid-sized. She really got a kick out of this, since she can now reach all sides of the tub and bathe like a big kid. She also lets me brush her teeth (yes, all 2 of them), and her gums. Got to keep those teeth and gums healthy!

Nanea says "mamamamama" and "dadadadada," but not necessarily to us. She says "dadadadada" WAY more. She also says "ohhhhh" and has the cutest chuckle. Not giggle, but a raspy, deep chuckle. Almost sounds a little like a cough. Full of glee.

She is ticklish on her back and ribs. She likes to hang upside down and go for rides in the laundry basket. This consists of daddy pulling her around at probably unsafe speeds around the living room.

I never knew how much I would love this baby. It is hard, hard work, but when I look at her, and she smiles at me, and she immediately crawls over to me and lifts her arms to be picked up, I realize it is all worth it. It sounds so cliche, but you just really can't get a better feeling than that. And, I know that I need to enjoy it, douse myself in it, while I can!! I know as she gets older she will probably not want to have as much to do with her good old mom. I just hope I do it right. I think about that a lot.

Well, that's all for now!

ah yes, the joy of motherhood! and believe me when i say, "it never ends!" i too wouldn't trade it for anything in the world (well, except a good pint of rum raisin ... just kidding).

Nice look to the new website!!! and great story about Nanea sans pics, even!

Really sweet Aloha. Thanks for posting about the baby. I've long been a lurker on this blog. Your daughter does that the best smile ever!

So, now it's Mom's turn. (If I can stop crying) You are enjoying the wonders of being a mom, a mother.
She is as wonderful as you and Mikie, Kamalei were for me.
Just enjoy her, as I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy you and your sisters.
She brings us all so much JOY to our lives.
Give her big hugs and kisses from TUTU and GRANDPA!!!

Love
MOM
