Today was our first swim class. I had no idea what to expect, but in spite of the pool being warmer than Nanea's baths, it was quite good (there is something disconcerting about getting into a HOT pool, not to be confused with a jaccuzzi, but as usual, I digress).

Being the anal person that I am, we arrived almost a full 45 minutes early for class. In my defense, I did have to register and pay, which took all of 2 minutes. I had been clued into the trick that although they say that they require "real" swim diapers as opposed to the disposable ones, which they conveniently sell there, I could just bring her in her suit, and they would never know. But, I crumbled when asked if she had a disposable on and therefore had to buy the $10 swim bottoms any way (I just can't lie in the face of authority. I would never make a credible witness). The theory is that they actually hold in the pee and poo, whereas the disposables only hold the pee. But, I got to disprove that theory as my daughter peed while we were waiting to go in the pool and I watched the pee drip onto the ground. I guess it held most of it, but I wonder what keeps it in the diaper once you get in the water. Any way...

We were happily surprised to see a lot of our friends at the pool. It was a popular time of day. Nanea loved every second of it and smiled and laughed the entire time. She is the youngest in the class by about 5 months, though she is not the smallest one. The instructor kept commenting on how happy she was, and she was the frequent model for demonstrating what we should have been doing. Meaning, Malia and I were talking more than paying attention the the poor 17 year old teacher. Bad parents! We return on Thursday, and will be going twice a week at least through the end of July. Hopefully I'll get some pictures if I can ever get Noa there since I have to be in the pool with her.
